SIN OF AVOIDING THE CROSS

Pastor Mrs Joyce Ola

  • The cross means suffering as a result of righteous standing NOT serving punishment for offence committed. The cross should be taken in good faith for It is persecution because you are a Christian. Unfortunately some people have been persecuted for Christ’s sake but miss the blessing because they are not real followers but maybe just have a Christian name. Luke 9:23 says- “Pick up your cross daily and follow”, Self-denial and daily picking of the cross is the mark of being a disciple -Luke 14:27 and until they start calling you names for the sake of Christ you’re just on your way

What it means to take the cross

  • It’s accepting moments of suffering in our lives and bearing it patiently
    • We recognize the sovereignty of God
    • James 1:2-4 count it all joy when you fall…
    • 1pt 1:6-7
  • Denying yourself (Lk 22:42 -let this cup pass…)
    • There is no convenience in service
    • Self-denial is part of service
    • Jesus denied and humbled himself to the cross
  • Humbling yourself and accepting God’s judgment
    • humble yourself to win souls
    • God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble
  • Suffering unjustly 1Peter 2:19-20; 3:14
    • you may be denied appointment, admission or promotion
    • it’s not because you offended or make a wrong decision but because of your faith
    • If you should suffer…your are blessed
  • Losing today in order to gain tomorrow
    • God knows how to make up the gain both in this life and the one to come
    • Phil 2:8-11 God has highly exalted Him…
